There are several aspects of environmental consideration an organisation should consider when setting up a business foot-print in an area. Environmental considerations could mean factors associated with the purchase, manufacture, operation or disposal of a product, asset or service that affect the environment, such as the degree in which that product or service uses recycled materials, is energy efficient, or produces or reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
An organisation should identify all the potential environmental aspects/impacts an organisation is exposed to. So, that the organisation can implement processes and strategies to counter those exposure and limit damage to the environment and / or their workforce. Some items which require reviewing (but not limited to) are:
- Outside working areas i.e. sun, heat, wind, rain,
- Indoor air quality
- Working in areas of cyclones
- Noise activities
- Limiting the production of useable waste
- Local flora and fauna
- Use of sustainable material
- Producing ECO friendly products and services
- Recycling
- Low cost in energy use
An organisation needs to identify what will be required, then implement those requirements i.e. shelters/shade, lighting, training, PPE, waste capture, recycling noise reducing products, emergency response plans (spill kits, containment rescue, waste capture etc.) all can assist with this burden.
A benefit of this process could be a reduction in costs, a better improved local environment, a safer more content workforce, more efficient product, increase in sales/revenue etc.
