What role does Quality Assurance pertain to in relation to the supply chain of an organisation?
The quality assurance (QA) process established by an organisation should cover all product/service quality and compliance specifications, along with best practice guidelines for suppliers, farms, factories, warehouses, and shippers (to name a few) during the development stage of production. This all assists in reducing the risk to that organisation.
The main goal of quality assurance efforts when establishing a sufficient supply chain strategy is customer satisfaction (a happy customer mean they’ll probably take more of what you have to offer) and reduction of risk.
- Quality assurance plays an extremely vital role in supply chain management programs between production, supplier performance, and minimizing supply chain risk.
- Quality issues can be limited or prevented at strategic points within the supply chain through production monitoring, transportation planning, and considering the customer’s requirements.
- Having the right processes, tools and systems with a qualified/experienced workforce will make an organisations supply chain quality assurance program complete.
The best way to combat risk is to recognize its potential sources and consequences beforehand. Then have a set of procedures in place whenever production cycle issues arise.
Note: this is where auditing and inspections come in to the whole holistic process of quality assurance.
