Learning from Workplace Incidents

We cover a lot of ground with our auditing/inspection and consultancy services.

One item we come across on a regular basis is ‘safety share’s’. Safety shares are an integral part of any organisations safety culture.

A lot of internal meetings (formal and informal) start with one (observed in many meeting minutes we inspect/audit).

Some safety shares are simple reminders or a short anecdote.

However, quite a number of safety shares we have seen have been extremely important. So important that we believe they should be shared with the wider workplace communities as, it relates to their activities as well.

However, alas this rarely happens.

Knowledge sharing occurs when that safety information is exported into the wider community. We have seen numerous times (over the years) where similar incidents have occurred in various organisations over a short period of time. If (and yes it is a big if) that information (safety share) had been shared with the wider industry then maybe (maybe) the information may have limited other incidents from occurring?

It is a shame knowledge sharing ‘safety shares’ do not occur on a more regular basis to the wider communities. They could save a life one day?

Send us your safety shares and we would be more than happy to share them (once reviewed and approved)
